Fix Your Hiked Hip, Side Bends, & Rotations - Spinal Erector Work

Do you have a hiked hip or a raised shoulder, have you been told that you have scoliosis?

When you have a unilateral hypertonic segment of your erectors your more than likely going to have a side bend. Also, it is impossible to have a side bend in the thoracic and lumbar vertebrae without having a rotation in your spine. So, not only will you have a side bend you will also have a rotation to boot.

When you have this type of unilateral hypertonicity in the erectors more than likely, you will have one side of erectors contracted tight, and the opposite side pulled tight. The constricted side will be drawn away from the spine and causing the side bend and rotation. This side needs to be released and pushed back to the centerline of the body. The opposing erectors will be pulled tight and compressing/driving into the spine. This side needs to be shortened by pressing/pushing it away from the spine.

In this video, I am demonstrating how Rolfing is used to help bring a clients specific side bend and rotation back into alignment. Keep in mind; this is only part of what goes on in a session. There is, and there must be a process to get to this point in your treatment. Rolfing is a process, not an event.

ATHLETIC DISADVANTAGES:
Inability to use your full potential in all planes (inability to bilateral push, pull, and press evenly), overhead instability, compression of nerves system, unilateral or bilateral stiffness or tightness in girdle segments or full girdle. Overtraining segments rather than equally training specific areas of the body, leading to unanticipated injury(s) to the weaker joints (foot/ankle, knees, hips, lower back, shoulder, elbows, and neck).
